Dong Won
Dongwon is a South Korean food group that introduced canned tuna to Korea in 1982. From Dongwon we stock tuna in oil – plain, with chilli and with vegetables – in 135 g tins.
The Dongwon group was founded in 1969 by Kim Jae-chul, formerly the captain of a tuna fishing vessel in the South Pacific. The fishing business grew into the largest fishing company in South Korea. It launched canned tuna in 1982, and in 2014 it became the first in Korea to pass 5 billion tins sold; today it holds around 70–80% of the domestic market. Since 2008 Dongwon has also owned the American tuna brand StarKist.
What we stock
We offer tuna in oil (135 g) in the classic version, with chilli and with vegetables. In Korea it is eaten with rice and added to spicy kimchi jjigae stew, fried rice or kimbap rolls. But it is just as good in salads, sandwiches and pasta.
