Kwang Cheon Kim

Origin: Korea, Republic of1 product on offer

Kwang Cheon Kim (광천김) is a South Korean maker of seasoned gim seaweed from Hongseong County, where the family business has a tradition going back to 1970. From Kwang Cheon Kim we stock roasted nori seaweed with oil, 10 × 5 g.

The Kim family began trading dried seaweed in 1970, and the founder's son Kim Jae-yu started producing seasoned seaweed in 1998. Kwangcheon Kim is now one of Korea's leading gim producers, with 12 plants in Korea, the USA, Lithuania, China and Indonesia, and exports to around 60 countries. It is named after the seaside town of Gwangcheon on the Yellow Sea, known for its market selling seaweed and salted seafood.

What we stock

Seasoned seaweed in a 10 × 5 g pack consists of thin sheets of roasted seaweed brushed with oil and lightly salted. In Korea it is eaten with rice – a piece of seaweed is laid on a spoonful of rice and wrapped around it – or on its own as a crunchy snack. It is also good chopped into soups, over rice bowls or on onigiri.

The small portions are handy for snacks, work or trips. Once opened, the seaweed quickly absorbs moisture – seal the rest in a bag or container.
