Mackays

The brand was founded in 1938 by the Mackay brothers in Carnoustie on the east coast of Scotland – they started making jam from berries grown in the surrounding fields in a former carrot-processing plant. Since 1995 the company has been run by the Grant family, and since 2008 it has been based in Arbroath. On its labels the brand is written Mackays.

How it is made

The jams and marmalades are cooked in small batches in steam-heated copper pans. The strawberries, raspberries and blackcurrants come from eastern Scotland, the bitter oranges for the marmalades from Seville.

What we stock

Fruit jams (strawberry, blueberry with blackcurrant, ginger), orange marmalades – also with whisky, champagne or other citrus fruits –, lemon curd, cranberries with port and chutneys: apple with fig, sun-dried tomato with chilli or caramelised onion with chilli. The chutneys and onion go well with cheese and roast meat, the lemon curd on bread and in desserts. You will also find gift and Christmas editions.
