MEGA
MEGA Sardines is a Philippine brand of canned sardines from the family company Mega Prime Foods. From MEGA we stock sardines in soybean oil, in tomato sauce and with chilli, in small and large tins.
The company started in 1975 as a fishing business in the Bicol region, founded by William Tiu Lim. In 1995 it moved to Zamboanga on the island of Mindanao, built its own cannery there and launched the Mega Sardines brand in 2000. Today it is run by the family's second generation and, according to the company, has the largest fishing fleet in the Philippines.
The producer relies on fast processing: according to the company, it takes about 12 hours from catch to sealed tin, and the fish are chilled in seawater at around zero degrees right after they are caught. Mega Sardines are among the best-selling sardines in the Philippines.
What we stock
We offer sardines in soybean oil and in tomato sauce in 155 g and 425 g tins, with the large size also available with chilli. In the Philippines, sardines in tomato sauce are eaten with rice, sautéed with onion and garlic or added to soup with thin misua noodles. They are also good on bread, in a spread or with pasta.
