PG Tips
PG Tips is a British black tea brand launched by Brooke Bond in 1930. We stock PG Tips black tea in packs of 80 tea bags.
The tea came onto the market in 1930 under the name Pre-Gestee; shopkeepers shortened it to "PG", and after the war the name PG Tips stuck. The word tips refers to the finest tops of the tea bush – two leaves and a bud. The tea is blended at Trafford Park near Manchester, where it has been made since 1930; today the brand belongs to Lipton Teas and Infusions.
Britons remember PG Tips mainly from its TV adverts: from 1956 to 2002 they featured a family of chimpanzees, which even made it into the Guinness Book of Records. They were later replaced by Monkey, a knitted puppet, alongside comedian Johnny Vegas.
What we stock
PG Tips black tea in a pack of 80 tea bags of 2.9 g each is a strong British-style blend. Pour boiling water over a tea bag, leave to brew for 2–4 minutes and add milk and sugar to taste – that is how tea is most often drunk in Britain.
