Squid Brand is a Thai fish sauce from the family company Thai Fishsauce Factory of Bangkok, made since 1944. We stock it in a 700 ml bottle.
The company was founded in 1944 by Tien Nithipitigan and is now run by the third generation of the family. It is based in Bangkok, has factories in Samut Prakan and Samut Songkhram provinces, and exports Squid fish sauce to more than 70 countries – around half of its sales are abroad, mainly in the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK and France.
How it is made
Fish sauce is made from fresh anchovies and sea salt, which ferment together naturally for 18 months. According to the producer, Squid contains no preservatives, MSG or artificial colourings.
What we stock
Squid fish sauce (700 ml, green label) contains anchovies, salt and sugar. In Thai and Vietnamese cooking it takes the place of salt – it belongs in curries, tom yum soups, pad thai noodles, salads and dips. Use it by the teaspoon, as the flavour is strong.
