Zafran
Zafran is a brand of Pakistani basmati rice imported by the Czech company F.W. Tandoori. From Zafran we stock basmati rice in 1 kg and 5 kg bags.
Zafran basmati rice is imported from Pakistan by F.W. Tandoori, a Czech family company that has been importing Asian food since 1992. According to the importer, it is extra-long-grain super basmati rice that is aged in silos for two years before packing.
Pakistani basmati
The original growing area of Pakistani basmati is Punjab, between the Ravi and Chenab rivers. Basmati has long, slender grains that get even longer when cooked, and a distinctive aroma. Pakistan supplies around two thirds of the basmati consumed in the EU; Pakistan and India are still disputing the protected name basmati in the EU.
What we stock
We sell basmati rice in 1 kg and 5 kg bags. Following the importer's instructions, rinse it, put it in a pan with twice the amount of salted water, bring to the boil and cook on the lowest heat for 12–15 minutes. Then let it rest under the lid and fluff it up with a fork. It goes well with Indian and Pakistani curries, biryani and as a side dish.
