S&B
S&B is the Japanese spice maker that produced Japan's first curry powder in 1923. From S&B we stock Golden Curry mix in four heat levels and wasabi powder.
The company was founded in 1923 by Minejiro Yamazaki in Tokyo's Asakusa district, when he succeeded in making the first curry powder in Japan. The initials S&B, added to the brand in 1931, stand for Sun & Bird: the company was to rise like the sun and its products to spread across the country like a bird in flight. S&B is based in Tokyo and celebrated its centenary in 2023.
S&B has made Golden Curry mix since 1966 and now exports it to more than 50 countries. In 1970 the company became the first in Japan to sell seasonings in tubes, and it is also credited with wasabi in a tube.
What we stock
Golden Curry (220 g) comes as blocks of curry roux that melt into stock with braised meat and vegetables – making a thick Japanese curry sauce served with rice. Choose from Mild, Medium, Hot and Extra Hot. Wasabi powder (30 g tin) is mixed with a little water into a paste for sushi and sashimi.
Make a classic Japanese curry with chicken or pork, potatoes, carrots and onions; you can also serve it with a tonkatsu cutlet. Let the wasabi paste stand for a few minutes before serving.
