Wormup is a Czech family brand of edible insects – roasted and flavoured mealworms. From Wormup we stock 20 g packs in cheddar, chilli, mustard, pizza and bacon flavours.
WormUP was founded in 2019 by Libor Sloupenský and Eva Sloupenská, who had already been experimenting with mealworms. They buy the larvae of the mealworm beetle (Tenebrio molitor) from a Czech breeder and process them in their own kitchen in Blansko: the worms are briefly blanched, dried with hot air, flavoured and packed. Production is under veterinary supervision.
In 2021 the EU approved dried mealworm larvae as a novel food – the very first insect to receive such approval. In the same year WormUP won the Company of the Year and Food and Food Producer of the Year awards in the Hradec Králové Region.
What we stock
We sell crunchy mealworms in 20 g packs in cheddar, chilli, mustard, pizza and bacon flavours. Eat them as a savoury snack with beer or a film, sprinkle them over salad, soup or avocado toast, or offer them to guests to try. People allergic to shellfish or dust mites should taste insects with caution.
