Product description
What is it
Kikkoman Less Salt is a Japanese soy sauce (shoyu) in a large 975 ml bottle. It is produced by the Kikkoman brand in the city of Noda, whose roots reach back to the 17th century. The sauce is made by natural brewing, i.e. fermentation of soybeans and wheat, and follows a traditional Japanese process. This variety has a lower salt content than the classic Kikkoman sauce. It is suitable for those who use soy sauce often and want to season more carefully. The package, produced in the Netherlands, is intended for households and for those who cook more frequently.
Taste and Properties
The flavour is well balanced: the saltiness is milder than in the classic version, and there is the typical umami with a subtly sweetish note and a pronounced aroma. The sauce is dark brown and liquid, so it disperses easily through the dish and the marinade. It is vegan and free of preservatives. It contains soy and wheat, which is good to know when cooking for allergy sufferers.
Usage and Tips
Soy sauce is the foundation of Japanese and other Asian cuisines, and you can use it far beyond them.
- with sushi, sashimi and rice, as a dipping sauce,
- in marinades for meat, fish, tofu and vegetables,
- in stir-fry, noodle dishes and fried rice,
- in soups, dressings and dips,
- to season eggs, vegetables or meat sauces.
Because it is less salty, you can use it a little more generously. When cooking, however, always taste as you go and add salt only at the end.
Storage
Keep the bottle tightly closed. After opening, store it in the refrigerator so the sauce retains its flavor and aroma.
