What is it
Nongshim Kimchi Ramyun is a spicy instant noodle soup with a kimchi flavor, kimchi being fermented cabbage that is a staple of Korean cuisine. The 120 g package contains wheat noodles, a sachet of soup powder, and a sachet of dried vegetables. It is manufactured by the South Korean company Nongshim, which you probably know mainly for its Shin Ramyun line.
Taste and properties
The soup is spicy and strongly seasoned. The base flavor comes from red paprika, black pepper and garlic. In the broth you will find dried kimchi flakes, then bok choy, carrot and green onion, which are cooked in water and complete the soup. The noodles are typical ramyun noodles, that is, wavy and springy after cooking.
Caution, the seasoning powder contains anchovy, soy, wheat and mustard oil. If you react to any of these ingredients, check the full composition.
Preparation
- Bring about 500 ml of water to a boil.
- Add the noodles and pour in the contents of both sachets.
- Cook for 4 minutes and serve.
For a milder taste, you can add a little more water.
Usage and Tips
The soup is suitable as a quick lunch or dinner when there is no time to cook. In Korea, ramyun is often topped with eggs, tofu, mushrooms, or fresh vegetables. After adding these ingredients, it becomes a more filling meal. Steamed rice or a small portion of kimchi goes well with the spicy flavor.
